CNN —The Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Darvin Ham, the team announced Friday. The 50-year-old Ham compiled a 90-74 record in two seasons at the helm, including leading the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals last season. On Monday, Los Angeles was eliminated from the NBA playoffs in five games, losing to the reigning champion Denver Nuggets for the second straight postseason. “This organization will remain unwavering in its commitment to deliver championship-caliber basketball to Lakers fans around the world,” Pelinka said. Before becoming the Lakers head coach, Ham spent his career as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and the Lakers for two seasons from 2011 to 2013.

With his season once again coming to a premature end, James is looking forward to spending some time away from basketball. “I just want to get home to the family, honestly,” James said after the game. (AP) — At least eight people were injured in a shooting at the end of the parade to celebrate the Super Bowl win by the Kansas City Chiefs, sending terrified fans running for cover and marring yet another high-profile public event in gun violence. CNN —Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid is set to undergo surgery to deal with a left knee issue, the team announced on Sunday. “Joel Embiid will have a corrective procedure this week to address an injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee. Embiid has spent time out of the Philadelphia lineup this season as result of persistent injury issues and has missed 14 out of the 76ers’ 48 games. The Cameroonian was recently named to his seventh career All-Star team, but it appears that he will miss this month’s festivities in Indianapolis. Embiid can only miss three more games before he becomes ineligible for an award, meaning that his injury essentially takes him out of MVP contention.

The Kings led by four late in overtime, but Brook Lopez made a 3-pointer from the corner to pull the Bucks to 141-140 with 11.5 seconds remaining. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, Malik Beasley scored 23 points and Bobby Portis added 22. The Bucks were without Khris Middleton, who rested his surgically repaired right-knee as the Bucks played their third game in four days.
